Calculating Amplitude Modulation Index (CAMI)

In practice, carrier modulation is often obtained from a combination of several modulations transmitted simultaneously. The magnitude of the total modulation resulting from several modulations is determined by the following formula:

A 360 watt RF is simultaneously modulated by Audio waves having modulation percentages of 55 and 65 respectively. What is the total radiated side band power?

Modulation Index and Number of Transmitters

Solution:

The number of AM transmitter stations can be found using the following calculation method:

Number of stations = Total bandwidth : Bandwidth per station

Example:

How many AM transmitter stations can be accommodated in a bandwidth of 100KHz, if the highest modulation of the carrier station is 5kHz?

Solution:

Total BW = 100 kHz
fsb = 5 kHz

So BW / Station = 10kHz from fsb x 2, because:

fsb AM wave

So the number of transmitting stations is 100kHz / 10 kHz = 10
