For a bit of nostalgia, around August 2013, our GETER community organized an expedition to Sermo Reservoir in Kulonprogo, exploring the natural beauty of western Yogyakarta.
As usual, our favorite way to unwind is through touring, so August was the perfect time for our first tour of the year. We typically do at least two tours annually.
If you're visiting Yogyakarta, don’t hesitate to ride your bike to this place—it's ideal for cycling. There are other tourist spots nearby as well, such as Kalibiru in Kulonprogo.
Journey in 2013 – This is one of the most beautiful and interesting places to visit in western Jogja, especially in Kulonprogo. Here, you'll find many untouched destinations that remain largely unknown, with an environment that is impressively free of pollution. The local residents are highly aware of their responsibility to protect the area. Apart from Sermo Reservoir, I also visited the Kali Biru tourist spot.
For those of you who haven’t visited yet, don't assume that Kali Biru has a river with crystal blue water—you won't find that there!
At the time, the observation deck I climbed was fragile and quite risky. However, curiosity about Kalibiru grew, and soon enough, tourists from both local and distant areas flocked to enjoy the place. Due to the surge in interest, the local community, with government assistance, started improving the facilities, which had long been neglected.
During my visit, the entrance ticket was very affordable, around IDR 5,000. After the improvements, it’s no surprise that ticket prices have increased, but it’s still quite affordable for visitors.
