Teluk Biru a.k.a Teluk Hijau in Banyuwangi (TBTHB)

This story began with my friend's curiosity about the charm of "Teluk Biru" in Banyuwangi. Initially, he planned an expedition at the start of 2017 to visit areas that hadn’t been widely explored yet. It turned out to be true that "Teluk Biru" in Banyuwangi was indeed largely unknown. Why was that? Well, because Teluk Biru is practically a myth. We call it a myth because we couldn’t find it at the location; even Google Maps doesn’t show it. Not just Google—even the locals along the Banyuwangi coast hadn’t heard of it. So what was going on here? It seemed my friend had been misled by an online publisher.

Darn it, we initially thought Teluk Biru's charm would be similar to Raja Ampat, with opportunities for snorkeling, fishing, diving, and so on. It turned out that it was all just fictional. But no worries, we didn’t give up, because Banyuwangi still has many alternative destinations, like “Teluk Hijau.” Yes, the local tourism officials in Banyuwangi actually recommended that we visit “Teluk Hijau.” They were even puzzled as to how we had heard about “Teluk Biru” since it didn’t exist; only “Teluk Hijau” did. The official convinced us that perhaps what we were really looking for was “Teluk Hijau,” and so we decided to trust him. After all, Google Maps also directed us to the location of “Teluk Hijau.”

Teluk Hijau is a beach destination located within the Meru Betiri National Park, in Sarongan, Pesanggaran, Banyuwangi. It’s around 90 kilometers from Banyuwangi City. It’s called Teluk Hijau, or Green Bay, because the seawater here has a greenish hue.

Specifically, it is located in Sengrong, Purworejo Alas Purwo National Park, Purworejo, Kalipait, Muncar, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, 68484.

And when we finally went there, this is how our story ended. Please check out our documentary below—hopefully, it captures our phenomenal journey. Enjoy watching!
