Our journey began at Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan Airport, where we were picked up by an Ertiga car driven by a team from a well-known coal mining company in East Kalimantan.
We eventually arrived at Semayang Port, but that wasn’t the end of the journey. The team from the Korean-owned mining company continued to assist us, as we would be crossing Balikpapan Bay to North Penajam Paser Port using the company’s speedboat. The crossing took about 15 minutes.
Along the way, we passed by many tankers, each about five times the length of a futsal field. The seawater throughout the crossing was quite murky, possibly due to frequent passages of speedboats and ferries.
North Penajam Paser Regency is a newly established regency split from Pasir Regency, located across or closer to Balikpapan.
