Revised: This is Bukit Batu Daya, located in Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan, as corrected by Mr. Vincent Yosi Robean.
Bukit Tunggal is one of the mountains (although locals are more familiar with calling it a hill), located in Jekan Raya District, Palangka Raya City, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. Perhaps because it is not a type of volcano and also due to its structure, which consists of massive, largely intact rocks, locals tend to refer to it as a hill. Bukit Tunggal stands at an elevation of 1,120 meters above sea level.
Interestingly, the mountains of Kalimantan are globally recognized for their unique biodiversity. The Muller Mountain Range, for instance, is acknowledged as one of the world’s mega biodiversity hotspots, alongside the Amazon and Papua. It has also earned the nickname “Heart of Borneo.” The following are some hills or mountains within the Muller Mountain Range:
- Mount Betung: 1,200 meters above sea level
- Mount Kerihun: 1,790 meters above sea level
- Mount Tunggal: 1,120 meters above sea level
- Mount Lawit: 1,770 meters above sea level
- Mount Batu: 1,410 meters above sea level
- Mount Cemaru: 1,180 meters above sea level
All of these mountains are part of the Betung Kerihun National Park. This "Heart of Borneo" is a paradise in its own right.
