The Merapi Volcano Museum is an awesome place, guys! There, we can find all kinds of stories about Mount Merapi, from eruption remnants and eruption simulations to educational films and historical eruption footage. Plus, there are opportunities to learn about key figures who played an important role in managing the risks associated with Mount Merapi.
The museum is located at Jl. Boyong, Dusun Banteng, Harjobinangun Village, Pakem District, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. For more information, you can contact this number: (0274) 896498.
The museum was inaugurated on October 1, 2009, by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Purnomo Yusgiantoro. The building covers an extensive area of about 4,470 square meters on 3.5 hectares of land. It has two floors—a ground floor and the first floor—complete with a garden and parking space. Many people also refer to it as "Merapi, the Window to the Earth."
The Merapi Volcano Museum is also a great learning place. It not only provides information on volcanology and geological disasters but also offers a recreational experience. The goal is simple: to broaden public awareness and understanding of science, social, cultural matters, and more. Sounds fun, right?
